LETTER FROM FATHER PETER

Advancing Our Legacy, Together

Ěý

Dear Friends,

When we sing Villanova’s alma mater, we honor our past, remembering the warm connections that we feel as a community. We also make a commitment to forge confidently into the future. Our individual voices meld to echo St. Augustine reveling in the glory of God—“ever ancient, ever new.”

When the twilight shadows gather
Out upon the Campus green
When the blue and purple night
Comes stealing on the scene
Loyal heirs of Villanova
Sing a hymn of praise
To our dear old alma mater
And our College days.

As Villanovans, we have been blessed by this wonderful place. As these lyrics evoke, we also have been entrusted with the duty to continue its storied tradition for generations to come.

This fall, alumni, students, faculty and staff gathered to celebrate the launch of our new comprehensive campaign, Espiritus Nova. We have ambitious goals, and we have been challenged to reach higher than ever before to advance those goals. Signs of our progress can be seen throughout the pages of this magazine, where you’ll meet remarkable Villanovans who are gaining a deeper connection to our Augustinian Catholic intellectual tradition through Humanities, Villanovans who are pursuing research that benefits the common good. And Villanovans who commit themselves to building a stronger Villanova for all. In reading their stories, I am reminded that we are endeavoring together on this journey, and that our unity makes all things possible.

The next several years will be a time of great transformation for our University: We will broaden opportunities for students, expand our research enterprise and enhance our academic and community spaces. But at the heart, our Augustinian Catholic spirit will endure, as we sing in the alma mater, “With a prayer for Villanova and a sweet Amen.”

Sincerely,
