Biography

Emily Stolzenberg is an associate professor of law and Villanova Law's inaugural Reuschlein Emerging Scholar. Her research focuses on conflicts between individual autonomy and legal obligation in the fields of family law and property. Stolzenberg’s work has appeared in the Boston College Law Review, Brigham Young University Law Review, Maryland Law Review, and North Carolina Law Review. Stolzenberg was a co-winner of the inaugural AALS Section on Family and Juvenile Law Emerging Scholars Paper Award for Tribes, States, and Sovereigns’ Interest in Children, 102 N.C. L. Rev. 1093 (2024) []. She also received the 2023 Haub Law Emerging Scholar Award in Women, Gender and Law for Nonconsensual Family Obligations, 48 BYU L. Rev. 625 (2022) [].

Stolzenberg earned a master’s in political theory from the University of Oxford and her JD from Yale Law School. After law school, she worked for the Legal Aid Justice Center in Charlottesville, Virginia; served as a law clerk to the Honorable Robert D. Sack of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit; and practiced family law at Feldesman Tucker Leifer Fidell LLP in Washington, DC. Before coming to Villanova, Stolzenberg was an associate in law at Columbia Law School and a visiting assistant professor of law at the Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University. She is a member of the New York and Washington, DC bars.
