The Center for Inclusive Education provides financial and social support to undergraduate and graduate students from under-resourced backgrounds, allowing them to participate fully in learning that takes place outside the classroom.

Experiential learning and academic enrichment opportunities, including immersion programs, study abroad, faculty-mentored research, unpaid internships and academic or professional conferences, carry a cost. The Center for Inclusive Education (CIE) provides stipends and facilitates efforts across the College to support students with information and access to funds for co-curricular academic enrichment, experiential learning and professional development. In addition to funding, the Center supports community-building, connecting students with peer mentors and student affinity groups—helping students find a sense of belonging.

PURSUING RESEARCH PASSIONS

Funding from the Center allowed Daniel Lopez Espinoza ’24 CLAS, ’26 MS to conduct research in summer 2024 alongside Scott Kassel, PhD, and Jared Paul, PhD, in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. Working in an inorganic chemistry, Daniel studied complexes that participate in photon upconversion—which has applications in solar energy conversion, photoredox catalysis, cancer therapy and biosensing. “Summer research allows me to pursue my interests in the chemistry field,” says Daniel, who has earned in bachelor’s at Villanova and is working toward his master’s in chemistry. “These degrees are a great personal achievement, as I am the first to complete a higher education in my family.”
