HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT MAJOR & MINOR DETAILS

Available as a major and minor within the Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies is a Human Resource Management program of study. Created in partnership between the College of Professional Studies and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Master's in Human Resource Development program, this major provides a framework for the application of human resource principles that can be applied in a broad range of organizational settings.

Preparing Professionals for an Evolving Workforce

When you think about departments and functions within a business or organization that are critically important to both short and long term success, the human resources team would likely be at the top of that list. From daily employee relations, to recruiting, to diversity and inclusion initiatives, to mental health resources, healthcare, compensation, etc., the human resources department plays a massive role in any organization in any industry. The COVID-19 crisis has only amplified the importance of the HR function.

Curriculum and Coursework: Alignment with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM)

The curriculum is focused on foundational human resource content areas and competencies and are aligned with the SHRM Curriculum Guidebook. Each course within the major contains at least one of the major HR competencies and/or knowledge areas in the SHRM Body of Competency & Knowledge (SHRM BoCKâ„¢). By providing a foundational framework in HR, aligned with SHRM, Villanova students will demonstrate their immediately applicable knowledge and skills to employers and increase their marketability upon graduation or even while completing the program.

Minor in Human Resource Management

Students pursuing a different major have the option to add human resource management as a minor.

Combined BIS/MS

In addition, the coursework in the HRM major will help prepare students to continue on into the combined BIS/MS Human Resource Development graduate program. and the HRD prerequisite courses will be waived!

HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT CERTIFICATE DETAILS

In partnership with theÌýCollege of Liberal Arts and Sciences Master's in Human Resource Development program, Villanova has designed the Certificate in Human Resource Management for individuals who wish to apply human resource principles in a broad range of organizational settings.

A bachelor's degree is not required for acceptance into the program, but credits fully apply toward CPS degree programs.ÌýBy providing a foundational framework in HR, aligned with SHRM, Villanova students will demonstrate their immediately applicable knowledge and skills to employers and increase their marketability upon completion of the certificate.

Consisting of 4 required courses (12 credits), the coursework in the Human Resources Management certificate will apply to many different industries and have a wide range of career applications. Pursue the next you with an exceptional human resources education from Villanova.

Bethany Adams

Bethany Adams, MA, SHRM-SCP – Associate Director of Marketing & Strategy, Villanova HRD

Bethany holds a BA in Psychology and a MA in Organizational Management. She is currently the Associate Director of Marketing & Strategy in Villanova's HRD program and is one of the course developers and faculty teaching in the BIS in Human Resource Management major. Bethany has experience teaching in both an online and traditional classroom for ÃÛÌÒTV and Blinn College. Bethany hosts the Villanova HRD Podcast, HR Tea.

Heather Gelting

Heather Gelting, MS, SPHR, SHRM-SCP –ÌýExecutive Director for the PAISBOA Health Benefit Trust and Villanova HR Certificates Program Coordinator

Heather holds an undergraduate degree in Psychology from Temple University and a Master of Human Resource Management from Penn State. She has taught online and on campus for Villanova for over ten years and will be teaching the Employment Law class in the BIS in Human Resource Management major. Heather spent twelve years working for PepsiCo and YUM Brands before transitioning to a mid-sized professional services firm as VP of Human Resources. She operated a Human Resource Consulting business for five years and currently works as the Executive Director for the PAISBOA Health Benefit Trust. Heather serves as the program coordinator for the Human Resource certificate courses offered within the College of Professional Studies.
