Early Term, Formative Student Feedback, Weeks 4-6 of the Semester

Teaching is a social, highly personal, and dynamic process and benefits from students’ feedback on how they are experiencing the learning environment. When we invite student feedback early in the semester (weeks 4-6), we convey to students their critical role in the learning process and their responsibility for their learning, which, in turn, encourages student ownership and investment in their learning. The formative (enhancement-based) feedback gives us insights into students’ experiences and provides opportunities for appropriate adjustments in our teaching to further support students’ learning and success. The process conveys our concern for the students and their learning and advances dialogue with students about their learning experiences.

Access to sample feedback form and instructions on how to collect, review, and share the feedback data with your students. We suggest you use Microsoft Forms to collect feedback anonymously; we provide both written and video instructions on how to set up Forms.
